AVEPM student award winners from CRWAD 2025

We would like to share with you this year’s AVEPM student award winners from CRWAD 2025.  We had 29 oral presentations and 5 poster presentations submitted for the AVEPM student competition.  Congratulations to all the participants and award winners!

Oral presentations

1st place – Alaina Macdonald – University of Guelph – “Determinants of health and disease at the global livestock-wildlife-human interface: a scoping review”

2nd place – Taylor McAtee – Kansas State University – “Associations between estimated greenhouse gas emissions in feedlot cattle cohorts and their health and performance”

3rd place – Claudia Ossa – Texas A&M University – “Rapid chute-side antibiotic resistance detection tool to improve antimicrobial stewardship and optimize risk management while controlling bovine respiratory disease”

4th place – MaRyka Smith – Kansas State University – “A scoping review of Foot-and-Mouth Disease biosecurity practices and farm-level risk factors”

Kayla Hazlett – Texas A&M University – “Development of baits and a variant classification system for target-enriched metagenomic mapping of prevalent liver abscess taxa in the bovine gut”
